COPPER
Stock #4669
Chino mine, Hurley,
Grant County, New Mexico
The
Chino mine once again produced a small lot of fantastic coppers!
These were mined earlier this year by Stan Esbenshade, and first offered
at the Springfield show. Rob Lavinsky managed to scoop the entire
lot, but I high-graded a few pieces before Rob had a chance to even out
the discrepancies in pricing. We all love a deal don't we, so why
not pass it on!
Size: 6.8 x 1.8 x 1.5 cm.

BERYL bi-colored
heliodor & aquamarine
Stock #4652
Near Davib Ost, Erongo
Mountains, Namibia
A single
pocket of these unusual beryl crystals was discovered about a year ago in
Namibia. Only a small number of specimens made it to the
market. All of the specimens were characterized by translucent, blue
aquamarine capped by yellow to brownish yellow heliodor. The
transition between colors is remarkably sharp, and is perpendicular to the
c-axis of the crystals. The specimens lack great luster on the prism
faces, but the pinacoid terminations are quite lustrous, and one can see
gemmy portions down into the crystals from the top. A great addition
to any gem crystal collection!
This
specimen is flattened along the c-axis, and has a partial crystal growing
at right angles on the back side.
Size: 5.5 x 4.2 x2.7 cm.

RUTILE
& HEMATITE
Stock #4363
Ibitiara, Bahia,
Brazil
This is
an older specimen that made it's way into the Jim McEwen collection.
The smaller crystals growing out perpendicular and at an angle to the main
crystal give the piece some nice 3-dimensional character.

TOURMALINE
(SCHORL +/or FOITITE)
Stock #4345
Erongo Mountains,
Namibia
Tourmaline
from this locality sometimes grown with an unusual crystal morphology best
described as a fin like a Mercedes Benz symbol. The trigonal fin
extending out the top of the main crystal here is about 2cm
tall. Unfortunately, the fin is a fragile, and is not
complete. I suspect only a couple of millimeters have been
lost. The reverse end is also terminated, but in a modified
pyramid. Please note that the small accessory crystal seen at the
top of the upper picture is not complete. The bottom termination is
fine, but the top is missing.

CUPROSKLODOWSKITE
Stock# ML3049K
Musonoi Mine, Katanga,
Democratic Republic of the Congo
We were lucky enough
to purchase the best of the cuprosklodowskites when they were re-working
some of the old mine dumps in 2001. This is a very nice vug with
associated uranophane and at least one other unidentified
species. The picture just doesn't do the color justice!

RHODOCHROSITE
Stock# ML3003K
Uchucchacua Mine,
Oyon, Lima Dept., Peru
Uchucchacua is famous
for rhodochrosites and native silver. Too bad this one only has good
rhodochrosites! These are deep red twinned scalenohedral crystals up
to 2.5cm long. The only damage is at the edges where the piece
broke off from matrix. Matrix minerals are manganese
oxides/silicates plus some small quartz crystals.
Size: Small Cabinet
