COPPER
Stock #4358
Chino Mine, Hurley,
Grant County, New Mexico
The
Chino mine is one of the oldest porphyry copper mines in the
Southwest. It was originally mined by Native Americans and
then by the Spaniards. "Recent" production began in 1910,
and the mine is now owned and operated by Phelps Dodge. This
particular specimen was one of the very best out of the pocket mined a
couple of years ago. Gene Meieran had first pick of the coppers, and
this was it! It is an absolute beauty as a floater specimen of 100%
large crystals. They just don't get any better than this!

ACANTHITE
Stock #4367
Imiter Mine, Tinighir,
Dades Region, Anti-Atlas Mtns., Morocco
Even
though I am a self-professed silver collector, I put off buying any of
these acanthites due to cost. Well, a good friend from Morocco
brought me a small lot in Tucson, and I couldn't pass them up. This
is a great acanthite, and looks good standing up or laying on it's side.

PEROVSKITE
Stock #4374
Near Akhmatovsk Mine,
Zlatoust, Russia
I bought
a small lot of these a year and a half ago in Munich. This piece was
sold as a much larger, repaired specimen. I took it apart, and did a
bit a trimming to end up with a super specimen. Perovskite is
pseudocubic making these nice cubes perched up on the chlorite schist
matrix.

RED
BERYL
Stock #4377
Violet Claim, Wah Wah
Mountains, Millard County, Utah
Here is
a nice specimen from the famous Violet claim. It seems like these
have pretty much dried up on the market now that the mine has been closed
for a few years. The larger crystal is 8 x 9mm.

BRAZILIANITE
& ALBITE
Stock #4381
Corrego Frio, Minas
Gerais, Brazil
Here is
a very good matrix specimen of brazilianite. The color is actually
much nicer green in real life. The contrast with the plately albites
is pleasing. The largest crystal is over7cm long. The crystal
tips have facetable zones.

GOLD
Stock #4357
Eagles Nest Mine,
Placer County, California
This is
a very nice crystalline gold with tigonal faces and leaves standing up
almost 4cm above the white quartz. From top to bottom of the gold on
the side is an impressive 7.7cm.

TOURMALINE
with ALBITE
Stock #4339
Pech, Kunar, Nuristan,
Afghanistan
This is
a great tourmaline! The photo just doesn't do it justice with a
pleasing green color grading down to pink at the base. The
transparency and luster are fantastic. Please note that even though
this is a superb specimen, there is a tiny "Wilbur" ding on one
corner of the top termination

ILLMENITE,
TITANITE, & ADULARIA
Stock #4341
Turmac, Pakistan
Pakistan
is now producing specimens that look very similar to the alpine minerals
of Switzerland. We first thought these were hematites, but
analytical work is showing most to be illmenite. I ran several
pieces at the University, and all had titanium. In fact, they
actually high-manganese illmenites. This specimen has superb luster
with thick, intergrown plates. The titanite is actually a nice
classic light green color, even though it is a bit washed out in the
photo. A really choice miniature!
